This is a great website that will translate words, sentences, paragraphs, and even complete websites between dozens of languages. The translations are not always perfect (it does not recognize slang - be careful), but are usually close enough to get the message across. This site is very helpful for email communications.
This language guide has many of the typical tourist words and phrases. What makes it different are the instructions that allow you to fold it into a handy little pocket-sized booklet. Available in Spanish, and many other languages as well.

Now that we own our own little piece of paradise, it's time to get to work! While there are plenty of great English/Spanish phrasebooks and dictionaries for the jobsite (start with a search on Amazon for "Construction Spanish"), we've put together a short list of useful words and phrases to get you started.
First, a word of warning about hiring help (any help) in Panama. While the workers are generally good, and the per-hour wage is very low, the Government is very protective of it's citizens. There are specific (and enforced) rules and regulations that must be followed when hiring local help. You can get a good overview of the laws here, but you should consult with your Panamanian attorney before hiring any employee.
